Assam is home to 31 million people, a third of whom are poor. The incidence of poverty in Assam remains higher than the national average, with poverty levels being very high in some parts of the state. Growth, which is driven mainly by services, is among the lowest in the country. A large majority of Assam’s workforce is still on the farm. Health and education have witnessed mixed progress. Progress for Assam’s women and girls has been slow. Maternal mortality is the highest in the country, the child sex ratio is declining, and female labor force participation is lower than in most other states.
RCFI started its operation in Assam during 2012 as the part of northeast development programme. The organization has completed 68 projects in various villages on agriculture, drinking water, education, and special care programmes.
